Before the SLA Leadership Summit, I did not know much about the special library market. I did not know what to expect when I arrived at the Special Library Association Leadership Summit, a 4 day event in Atlanta, GA where CCP Solutions sponsored as an Exhibitor for 2 days. I set up at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel as CCP representative and had the privilege of demonstrating our newest innovation in self-service scanning solutions, the Scannx Book ScanCenter. With the new “Scan to Smart Device” option, members of the association were wowed and excited for the future of their libraries. I made new friendships and doors were opened for new opportunities.

At the meeting, I quickly learned the diversity of special libraries. Members range from academic and religious to medical and governmental libraries. Florida State University Libraries, University of North Carolina, National History Museum of Los Angeles County and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago were all there. Leaders in the industry attended, such as Librarians, Managers, and Directors, and they were all thrilled to witness just how easily students and library patrons can transfer information through our touch screen solution. Another key feature that meeting attendees appreciated was the ability to protect PDF and sPDF document files with a pass code or password. In many cases, special libraries such as those in the medical, law and governmental sectors are scanning confidential documents for their archives or emailing scans to clients, students and patrons that require additional security.

After giving several demonstrations of the unit, I was not surprised to hear comments such as “Wow! I wish we had this scanner a month ago” and “I need this software for a recent project I’m assigned to digitize all of our printed resources” or “This is a great technology to blog about”. There’s no question that the Scannx Book ScanCenter provides solutions to the market issues we currently face to integrate, organize and transform information quickly and efficiently. Regardless of how small or large a library may be, the ability to provide patrons and staff with scanning options to the resources used most, including smart phones/tablets, email, USB and GoogleDocs, will be significant to future growth as the information industry adapts to innovations in the digital age.

Hello! I’m Daye, Southeast Regional Director for CCP Solutions. As of now, I primarily manage our BookScan sales and operations in the southeast U.S. After living the last 4 months of 2011 in New York, I am happy to be back in sunny Florida, representing my southern roots. Many consider me to be a Southern Belle by heart. So when I was given the opportunity to bring CCP Solutions and the BookScan product to the south, I leaped.

CCP Solutions provides self-service scanning and digital document solutions for libraries and businesses. For nearly 40 years, CCP has catered to the northeast region and has now begun to target the Southeast region with new revolutionary technologies. Our state-of-the-art scanner has a patented book-edge design to protect the spine of books. In addition, it’s what we like to call, “a student’s dream to accessing and organizing information.” I would have loved to have a BookScan Station in my school libraries – even in high school.

Through the CCP Expert Panel, my blog will be focused on stories of new and innovative technologies in education and libraries, including BookScan and similar CCP products. Also, you can expect to see how our clients are using the scanners to improve their organizations and provide better service for their customers. There’s been a lot of interesting dialogue lately regarding publishers and libraries. I’m sure we’ll tap into these concerns as well.

Active dialogue is welcome; let me know your questions and comments. Feel free to interact with me on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I just joined the Florida Library Association as well so, if you’re a member too, let me know!

The Port Washington Public Library (PWPL) held its first in a series of four free demonstration nights last week to introduce patrons to its Library Scan Station. PWPL is the first library in Nassau County to acquire the machine.

“We hope to make it easy for people to scan their important photographs, any type of document, or to be able to take information from research or reference books,” said Corinne Camarata, PWPL’s assistant director.

The Library Scan Station enables users to scan, share and save files via a USB drive, through their e-mail or by posting to a social media site. Images can be scanned in high resolution (up to 600 DPI) in either black-and-white or color and saved as a TIFF, JPEG, PDF, scannable PDF, Word or HTML file.
